Comprehensive Learning

Understand the origins and uses of Behaviour-In-Systems Mapping and learn how to integrate behavioural science and systems thinking to develop effective solutions for complex problems.

Practical Skills

Learn the principles of the Behaviour-In-Systems method, how to build systems maps that leverage the insights of behavioural science, and run a Behaviour-In-Systems project.

Expert Guidance

Learn from the originators and leading experts in the practical integration of behavioural and systems science applied to real world problems such as health, sustainability, organisational change, and social justice.

About the Course

Embark on a transformative journey to master the Behaviour-in-Systems (BIS) approach. This self-paced course is built for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers looking to map and change behavior in complex systems. Dive deep into the fundamentals, understand key concepts, and develop practical skills to unlock the power of combining behavioural and systems science to address societies' most complex problems.

Meet Your Instructors Dr. Paul Chadwick

Dr. Paul Chadwick is a consultant clinical and health psychologist with over 30 years' experience in behaviour change research and practice. He has held leadership roles at the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change, Public Health England, and the NIHR, and is the originator of the Behaviour-in-Systems approach — first applied in a landmark Welsh Government commission on decarbonisation. Paul is CEO of Tools for Complexity a bespoke consultancy focused on helping teams turn complex, "wicked" problems into clear, actionable next steps.

Dr. Lou Atkins

Lou is an internationally recognised behavioural scientist, author and trainer with over two decades of experience applying behavioural science to complex, real world challenges. She is founder and Lead Consultant at Good Change Science and co-author of The Behaviour Change Wheel: A Guide to Designing Interventions, one of the most widely used resources for designing behaviour change interventions using the COM-B model and related frameworks. Lou has published over 80 academic papers and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
